What happens to your body when you’re overweight?

It has been established unequivocally that larger meal portions, grazing between meals and eating fast foods full of fat, sugar and salt automatically leads to weight gain.

Now we need to consider what that weight gain does to our bodies. It’s not nice:-

  • Swathes of fat surrounding our internal organs – causing reduced organ function
  • Reduced organ function – leading to heart problems, diabetes, kidney & liver failure
  • Furred up arteries – leading to heart problems
  • Added pressure on hip, knee and ankle joints – leading to mobility issues, discomfort and eventually joint failure
  • Mobility issues – leading to muscle, tendon and ligament problems

and it goes on and on….

Massage, to release muscle tension and help promote greater mobility is a great way to begin to counteract the effects of over eating. Increased mobility won’t necessarily knock the pounds off, but it will help stimulate the desire to eat fresh, energising foods – such as fruit, vegetables and salads. Which will!

If you’re overweight it’s because you eat too much…

Last nights second episode of  ” sex videosThe Men who made us Fat” explored portion size and supersizing.

Food portion sizes have been growing steadily in the UK for several decades, and supersizing – the selling (and eating) of bumper size meals and bargain price snack multipacks – both contribute to a huge rise in our daily food intake.

Coupled with the constant, between meals, grazing we now indulge in, quite simply – we are putting far more into our bodies than they either need or can cope with.

The Result – encroaching obesity.

Most snack foods also contain excessive amounts of fat, sugar and salt – it’s what makes them so attractive to eat – and you don’t need to be Einstein to understand what effect that is having on our bodies.

There’s a lot of blame placed on American marketing entrepreneurs – but what it boils down to is us taking responsibility for our own actions. Re-addressing what – and how often – we eat.

Makes you think……

Smartphone users ‘risking health’ with overuse of devices

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy warns of people becoming “screen slaves”

People are risking their health by working on smartphones, tablets and laptops after they have left the office, according to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.. sexy photos babyblue_kitten43

It says people have become “screen slaves” and are often working while commuting or after they get home. The society said poor posture in these environments could lead to back and neck pain – people needed to learn to switch off their devices.

An online survey, of 2,010 office workers by the Society found that nearly two-thirds of those questioned continued working outside office hours. The organisation said people were topping up their working day with more than two hours of extra screen time, on average, every day. The data suggested that having too much work and easing pressure during the day were the two main reasons for the extra workload.

While doing a bit of extra work at home may seem like a good short-term fix, if it becomes a regular part of your evening routine then it can lead to problems such as back and neck pain, as well as stress-related illness.

“This is especially the case if you’re using hand-held devices and not thinking about your posture. By the time someone is so overloaded they constantly feel the need to put in extra hours every night of the week at home, things have clearly got out of hand. Individuals who find themselves unable to leave their work in the office should talk to their managers and learn to switch off their smartphones.”

Poor neck posture and what it can lead to….

For every inch that the head moves forward in posture, it increases the weight of the head on the neck by 10 pounds!

Poor neck posture leads to a Forward Head Position which is one of the most common causes of neck, head & shoulder tension – and pain. This can be a result of injuries – such as sprains & strains of the neck, leading to weak neck muscles; poor sleeping positions and driving stress; plus computer neck, couch neck & readers neck – all of which also lead to reduced breathing capacity.

The extra pressure on the neck from this altered posture flattens the normal curve of the cervical spine resulting in abnormal strain of muscles, ligaments, bones and joints of the neck – causing the joints to deteriorate faster than normal, resulting in degenerative joint disease or neck arthritis.

Massage can help reduce blood pressure

Massage may help protect you against high blood pressure, which is a major risk factor for heart disease. Some studies suggest that getting a massage may help calm the system, which is responsible for raising your blood pressure in response to stress. Although research on massage and blood pressure is fairly limited, there is evidence that adding massage to your stress management may help keep your blood pressure in check.

Why not try one…..
